Coventry City sign striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest

Coventry City have signed striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old scored 23 times in 103 appearances across all competitions for Forest after joining in 2022.

But the Nigeria international was limited to just three starts in the league last season and will be looking for more game time at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

“I am very excited about this season, and I can’t wait to get started,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to working with my new teammates. I have seen how amazing they have been last season, coming up from the Championship. They were incredible.”

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis added: “Taiwo will always have a special place in the history of Nottingham Forest. He has been one of the defining figures in our journey and given our supporters moments of great joy that will never be forgotten.”

Awoniyi joined Forest in 2022 for £17.2m ($23m) and was the club’s then-record signing.

“He [Awoniyi] always gives 100% for the team, he always gives 100% for the bench, and that’s why he deserves such a farewell, such a guard of honour,” Forest boss Oliver Glasner said after the side’s preseason win against Brest on Sunday.

“That’s why we decided we would give it to him and I wish him all the best at his next club, just not when they play us.”
