Antoine Semenyo expressed his frustration over his missed chances in Manchester City‘s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The European champions raced into a 3-0 lead in just over 30 minutes at the Etihad to stun the hosts before an improved second-half showing led by Erling Haaland saw the game eventually end 4-2 to PSG.
City pushed PSG hard for a way back, racking up 27 shots and a xG of 2.5. However, their finishing was wayward, with Semenyo especially wasteful. He had an xG of 0.45 and missed a gilt-edged chance soon after Haaland’s first goal that would have made the score 3-2.
“It’s quite frustrating, to be honest. I think I’m beating myself up a little bit at the moment from all the chances that I missed,” Semenyo said in a post-match interview to CBS.
“But I think collectively it was just the reaction and we did so well, caused so many problems. So just unfortunate not to score. So we just take the positives and go again.”
PSG’s credentials as Europe’s best team were again underlined in a scintillating attacking performance at the Etihad, and they look well placed to win a third-successive Champions League title.
They condemned City to their first defeat of the season in all competitions and could have put five goals past them had it not been for Ferran Torres‘ penalty-miss towards the end.

“They’re one of the best obviously … Ballon d’Or candidates all around in their team,” Semenyo said.
“They made it very hard for us today. We knew what to expect, very unorthodox, credit to them. That’s why they’re back-to-back European champions.”
