Mason Greenwood goal in vain as Fenerbahce held by Slavia Prague

Mason Greenwood scored a superb half-volley for Fenerbahce before Pavel Kacor matched him with a last-minute equaliser for Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Oguz Aydin opened the scoring for Fenerbahce inside five minutes before Greenwood doubled their lead moments later.

The Turkish side looked to be in control before Lukás Provod hit back almost immediately for Slavia Prague, scoring in the 15th minute of a frantic opening in Istanbul.

Kacor then snatched a 90th minute equaliser, earning a 2-2 draw to deny Fenerbahce their first Champions League win of the season.

The goal was Greenwood’s seventh of the season following his move to Türkiye from French side Maresille in the summer.

The former Manchester United forward was booed during a rare appearance back in England as Fenerbahce were thumped 6-0 by Aston Villa during last week’s Champions League action.

Greenwood last played for United in 2022, before was arrested and then charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour.

The charges were dropped in February 2023.
