Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has confirmed Carlos Baleba is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury against Roma.
Balebia limped off moments into the second half during Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
He looked to be in tears as he received treatment on the pitch and speaking at a news conference on Friday, Carrick said the £70m summer signing from Brighton will be out for a while.
“We don’t know exactly, but it’ll be a number of weeks,” Carrick said when asked about the severity of Baleba’s injury.
“It’s definitely not this week and it won’t be any time over the international break. It’ll be a little bit longer than that.”
Victory over Roma ended a run of nine games without a win for United. Carrick refused to get carried away afterwards and said it was only one game.
– Does Man United’s coach matter? Could Jurgen Klopp reach Premier League glory at Old Trafford?
– Are Arsenal too reliant on soccer’s ‘dark arts,’ or is it just sour grapes?
– Anthony Gordon left Premier League for Barcelona to get ‘respect’ — he’s got it now
But the 45-year-old said his players must use the result to build some momentum with the team hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone ahead of Aston Villa‘s visit on Sunday.
“It’s up to us to take it forward,” said Carrick.
“It was a fantastic night. As a one-off night, it was a fantastic night. It was nice for the supporters to end like that and to have that feeling, 100% for sure, it was a good night for us all.
“Nothing’s done yet. Nothing is achieved yet, and it’s one moment really in time that we need to use and we need to we need to yeah, we need to use to move forward. But we need more of it, for sure.”
