On Thursday, Liverpool confirmed that goalkeeper Karius will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
Origi’s departure has also been confirmed by the club, with the striker set to join Serie A champions AC Milan in the coming days.
German goalkeeper Karius, 28, has not played once this season.
The goalkeeper is famous for making a serious mistake in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2018, and he has not played for Liverpool since that game.
Karius has had a difficult time following the Champions League final in Kyiv. The following season, he had to move to the Turkish league, where he got at least the minutes he was denied in the Premier League.
The goalkeeper has found his way at Besiktas, where he spent the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons, making a total of 67 appearances.
But Karius’ life in Istanbul was not peaceful either, and in the middle of his first season, he reported to Besiktas for unpaid wages. During his two-year loan career, friction with the club continued. In the 2020-21 season, he was loaned to Union Berlin but made only 5 appearances. He returned to Liverpool last July but didn’t get the chance.
Karius joined Liverpool from Mainz in 2016 and played 49 games for the club. Unfortunately, his Liverpool development came to an abrupt end after the Champions League final four years ago.
