Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment of Matthias Jaissle as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Eddie Howe.
The former Al Ahli and RB Salzburg boss joins the Magpies on a four-year contract, the Premier League club announced Wednesday.
Jaissle’s arrival comes just 18 days ahead of Newcastle’s opening game of the new Premier League season against Liverpool at St James’ Park on Aug. 23.

The German coach joins arrives on the back of a successful three-year stint at Al Ahli, where he won the AFC Champions League in each of his last two seasons.
Prior to that, he won back-to-back Austrian Bundesliga titles at RB Salzburg, taking them to the Champions League knockout phases for the first time in their history.
Jaissle’s first game as Newcastle boss will be the preseason friendly against Valencia at the Mestalla on Aug. 8.

Howe — who spent nearly five years on Tyneside — is not alone in departing the club this summer, with Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon having made big-money moves to Tottenham and Barcelona, respectively.
Bruno Guimarães could also be on his way out, with Howe recently saying that he was unsure whether the Brazilian midfielder would remain at St James’ Park amid interest from Arsenal.
