Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund insisted there has been no significant change in contract talks with Harry Kane but said he is “very positive” about discussions with the England captain.
Reports in Germany at the start of the week said Kane agreed in principle the terms of a new deal that would run until 2029.
Speaking alongside head coach Vincent Kompany at a press conference on Friday, Freund was asked for an update, and whether it remains possible that the deal does not get finalised.
“There are always scenarios as long as it’s not signed,” Freund said. “There’s no new development.
“The talks are going well. We’re very positive, everyone knows we’re determined to extend his contract and Harry feels very comfortable here.”
The 33-year-old Kane has thrived since joining Bayern from Tottenham in 2023, scoring a remarkable 152 goals in 154 appearances and winning the Bundesliga Golden Boot in each season he has played in it, as he helped Bayern to two Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal last season.
On Tuesday, Kane marked a record-equalling 125th appearance for England with two goals in a 3-0 win over Czechia.
That is the sort of form which has helped make Kane one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or when it is announced in London later this month.
With Kane’s Bayern teammate Michael Olise also shortlisted, Kompany was asked about his players’ chances on Friday but shrugged off the question.
“I think it’s already been decided, right?” he said. “So I can’t change anything anymore regardless of what I say. Sorry but I don’t have this Ballon d’Or in my mind every day. Today I’m only thinking about [Saturday’s match against] Augsburg.
“I hope a Bayern player wins. But of course, it’s more important to me that we win titles with Bayern. I know Harry and Michael well, they think the same way. That’s what sets us apart as a team.”

Olise’s recent form has seen him linked with Real Madrid, but Freund said Bayern are fully relaxed about the future of the former Crystal Palace winger.
“Michael has had an incredible development with us and is currently one of the best players in the world,” Freund said.
“We’re extremely happy he’s playing for us. He’s under contract until 2029, so there’s no pressure. He feels extremely comfortable at FC Bayern, and we’re always in conversation with him. As I said there’s no time pressure.”
