Harry Kane said he no longer has the same “itch” to return to the Premier League as he did when he first left Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich three years ago.
England captain Kane has enjoyed huge success with the Bavarian giants, helping them win the last two Bundesliga titles to end his wait for major silverware. And on Wednesday he received the European Golden Shoe for the second time after finishing the 2025-26 season as the leading scorer across Europe’s domestic leagues.

The 33-year-old has often been linked with a return to the Premier League, amid the prospect of surpassing Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals in the competition. But Kane, who scored 213 Premier League goals in his time with Tottenham, said such thoughts are far from the front of his mind.
“When I first left [Spurs in 2023], for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore,” he told FourFourTwo.
“I’m extremely happy here in Munich. It’s opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England. It’s made me appreciate European football even more. With the team we have here, with the manager. My family are really settled here. It’s just about being in the best place possible.
“I never say never but, for now, I’m concentrating on Bayern Munich, and we’ll see what the future holds.”
Kane is entering the final 12 months of a four-year deal he signed when moving to Germany. But he said earlier this week that “both sides are relaxed” about the situation.
“We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday. So I’m not sure exactly when, but they’ll start this week, next week … we’ll start those talks.
“Like I’ve said before, we’re calm, I think they’re calm with the situation.”
Kane scored 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances and added five assists last season. His total gave him 72 points under the Golden Shoe’s weighted scoring system, well ahead of Manchester City‘s Erling Haaland, who had 27 goals and 54 points. Real Madrid‘s Kylian Mbappé finished third with 25 goals and 50 points.
Kane matched the 36 league goals that earned him his first European Golden Shoe in 2023-24. He also won the Bundesliga’s top-scorer award for a third consecutive season and has now recorded 98 goals in 94 German league appearances since joining Bayern.
“I always try to put myself in the best position to help the team and being the number 9 it is to score the goals most of the time, that is what I try to do,” Kane said after collecting the award. “Last season was an amazing season on many levels for the team and I am extremely proud to win this award again.”
Kane scored 61 goals and provided seven assists in 51 appearances for Bayern across all competitions last season. His haul included 10 goals in six German Cup games, 14 in 13 Champions League appearances and one in the Supercup. Bayern won the Bundesliga, German Cup and Supercup, with Kane scoring a hat trick in the cup final.
He added 12 goals and one assist in 14 appearances for England, including six goals at the World Cup as the national team finished third. Kane ended the campaign with 73 goals and eight assists in 65 games for club and country, averaging a goal every 71 minutes.
Kane received the trophy Wednesday at the Bayern Museum inside the Allianz Arena. He joins Gerd Müller and Robert Lewandowski as the Bayern players to win the award twice. Lionel Messi holds the record with six European Golden Shoes, while Cristiano Ronaldo won it four times
