MANCHESTER, England — Enzo Maresca has said he hopes to add “a captain” to his Manchester City squad before the end of the transfer window.
City have lost the experience of Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Nathan Aké and Rodri this summer.
Maresca fielded the club’s youngest opening day XI since 2008 in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday and the Italian is keen to bring in more leaders.
Sources have told ESPN that City are expected to make an offer for Enzo Fernández — Chelsea‘s captain last season — before the deadline on Sept. 1.
“We have experienced players,” said Maresca.
“For sure, we have leaders. Now we need to wait four or five more days when the transfer window closes if we can add one or two more captains to Ruben [Dias] and Erling [Haaland], who at the moment are the two captains.
“It’s the transfer window. Anything can happen. We’ll see. It’s four or five more days to go.”
Maresca is set to add new signing Ayyoub Bouaddi to his squad for the trip to Crystal Palace on Friday. The Morocco international completed his €100 million move from Lille on Wednesday.

Elliot Anderson is available to travel after coming off against Bournemouth with cramp.
Omar Marmoush is on the verge of completing his move to Tottenham while Jack Grealish, who came off the bench against Bournemouth, has been linked with Sunderland.
“Jack is here until the day that he’s here,” said Maresca.
“It’s my duty to try to help him to give us the best and then we’ll see in the next four or five days what happens. I speak with Jack almost every day.”
