Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany hospitalized after collapsing at training

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is undergoing tests in hospital after collapsing during a training session on Friday, the German club confirmed.

Kompany had been suffering with a viral infection that was affecting his legs over the past week, though was on the sidelines for Bayern’s Champions League match with Arsenal on Wednesday.

Bayern said that Kompany, 40, collapsed while watching a training session for the club’s reserve team on Friday and required medical care.

“Kompany is undergoing thorough examinations in hospital and will remain under medical care,” the club said. “His coaching staff will oversee training and match activities until further notice.”

The club’s director of sport, Max Eberl, said Kompany would be given “all the time he needs.”

“Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority,” Eberl said in a statement. “We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure he makes a speedy recovery.

“Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs. His coaching team, in whom we have complete confidence, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery.”
