Dominik Szoboszlai: Liverpool will be unstoppable if intensity is rediscovered

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has warned the club’s rivals that “no one can stop us” should their intensity of old be rediscovered.

The Reds got their first win of the season last Friday when they beat Ipswich Town 2-0 away, courtesy of an early brace from Alexander Isak.

It was their first Premier League victory under new boss Andoni Iraola, who took the reins at the club after a disastrous title defence under Arne Slot.

“I like him [Iraola] a lot,” Szoboszlai said in an interview with club legend Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports. “Obviously I know he [has] a really direct playing style, intense, which I love.”

The Hungary international was asked if intensity and energy will be different from last season.

“I think it has to change. This is what we missed last season,” he said.

“If we can bring this intensity back and that we want it more than the others, we have the quality. And [with] this together, no one can stop us.”

Szoboszlai also said that his favourite position is a box-to-box No. 8, crashing into the area and taking shots on goal.

Andoni Iraola: Bradley Barcola is ‘in a good place’ but patience will help

“Get the ball from the defender, give the long passes, but also arrive in the box, be there in the last third, also shots from a little bit farther. So that’s what I really like,” he explained.

The 25-year-old was forced to deputise at right-back on several occasions in the previous campaign — amid injury problems that hampered Jeremie Frimpong‘s first season. He has been told, however, that this is not a long-term plan.

“He [Iraola] made it clear one time that I’m not going to play right back, which meant a lot to me,” Szoboszlai said. “But if needs me there, obviously I’m going to be available.”
