Juventus to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham on loan with option to buy – sources

Juventus have agreed a deal with Tottenham to sign Guglielmo Vicario on loan, sources have told ESPN.

The Italian goalkeeper will move on a season-long loan with an option for Juventus to make the deal permanent for an £8.6 million ($12m) fee.

Juventus had previously tracked Emiliano Martínez of Aston Villa, who are chasing Parma’s Zion Suzuki.

New Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that his first-choice goalkeeper this season will be Antonín Kinsky. Martin Dúbravka has been signed from Burnley as back-up.

Vicario lost his shirt when fellow Italian De Zerbi joined the club last season. Despite Kinsky’s notorious howlers when Igor Tudor led Tottenham in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid last season, he has rebounded to claim the No. 1 shirt permanently at Vicario’s expense.

Vicario has made 117 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Serie A side Empoli three years ago.

Tottenham have significantly changed their squad this summer — letting go Cristian Romero (Atlético Madrid), Djed Spence (Inter Milan), Radu Dragusin (Fiorentina), Yves Bissouma (released), Luka Vuskovic (Brighton), Will Lankshear (Middlesbrough) and Manor Solomon (West Ham).

Sandro Tonali, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Mateus Fernandes have arrived in a rebuild designed to take Tottenham from consecutive 17th-place finishes back towards the top end of the Premier League table.
