Man United stunned by late Tottenham equaliser as 10-men visitors move off bottom of PL table

A below-par Manchester United were denied a morale-boosting win by 10-man Tottenham on Saturday as Dominic Solanke scored in stoppage time to lift the visitors off the bottom of the Premier League table.

United looked set to end a three-game winless league streak — despite being dominated by a profligate Tottenham in the first half — after Bryan Mbeumo swept home in the 73rd minute.

Michael Carrick would have been even more confident after Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for an adjudged headbutt on Luke Shaw five minutes later.

But United didn’t kill off Tottenham and Solanke stunned Old Trafford with a header into the bottom corner two minutes into added time.

The result means United have fallen to their worst league start since 1986-87, with just six points in six games.

It also leaves them 12th in the table, with only one this season. That’s one more victory than Tottenham in 2025-26, but Roberto De Zerbi’s side — who could have been two or three up before Mbeumo’s opener — are now up to 18th, with the similarly winless Fulham dropping to the bottom.
