The Netherlands announced Wednesday they hired former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez to coach the national team through the 2030 World Cup.
The Dutch had been without a coach since Ronald Koeman stepped down following the team’s elimination from this summer’s World Cup by Morocco in the round of 32.
“We proudly present our new head coach,” the Netherlands posted on social media. “Welcome, Xavi Hernández!”
The hiring marks the second time Xavi has replaced Koeman as coach, having taken over for the Dutchman at Barcelona in 2021.
The Spain World Cup winner began his coaching career at Al Saad in Qatar before taking the job with Barcelona in 2021. He led the team to the LaLiga title in 2022-23 and won the Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona in 2023.
