Youri Tielemans has taken to social media to apologise to Aston Villa fans for comments he made regarding his move to Manchester United.
Tielemans made the move from Villa Park to Old Trafford in the summer and joined on a five-year contract.
In a news conference during Manchester United’s preseason tour of the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, Tielemans thanked Villa for getting him “back to my best level” before saying: “there are clubs above Villa and Manchester United is one of them.”
The 29-year-old was then the subject of backlash from Villa fans following those comments, and so the Belgian midfielder took to Instagram to apologise.
“Never meant for my words in the press yesterday to offend anyone or the institution of Aston Villa Football Club, which I massively respect and I’m grateful for the past 3 years,” he said.

“I must however admit my mistake and apologise for my choice of words, will be more careful in the future.
“Wishing the club the best in the future.”
Tielemans joined Aston Villa from Leicester in 2023 and made 134 appearances, starring in the Europa League triumph last season.
