There were no more goals for Cristiano Ronaldo or for Manchester United after a 2-0 victory over Brighton on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.
A Bruno Fernandes goal in second-half stoppage time gave Man United their first league win since Jan. 22. Even though Brighton had 10 men after a red card in the 53rd minute, Man United still gave their fans a fright.
Ralf Rangnick’s team moves up to fourth place with the win, which means they’ll be in the UEFA Champions League at the end of the season. West Ham is now in fifth place.
During his six-match goal-less streak, Cristiano Ronaldo looked better than he had at any point. He also scored a goal in the second half as a reward. Man United caused a turnover, which led to the ball falling to Ronaldo. Ronaldo was merciless with his quick finish to set United on its way.
After a good first half, Brighton lost a goal and a man in two minutes. Lewis Dunk was sent off for not giving up an obvious goal-scoring chance, hauling down Anthony Elanga, who was breaking through on goal.
